Movie Screenshot Study - Sucker Punch

Haven't done a movie screenshot study in a long time. I think the last one I did was in May. So I did one from Sucker Punch (I like the designs in the movie, but I never watched it).

Digi Paint Study - Back

Yesterday I did my first digi paint study in months. I used to do a lot of these studies back in the day, but with school and learning 3D animation I didn't have time to study painting as much. But now I feel like getting back in the groove.

1.5 hour study using Marcus Ranum's stock photo as reference (http://mjranum-stock.deviantart.com and www.ranum.com)

Steps:

Caricatures from Video

In character design class we learned to study character types from real people and apply them to our designs. This is a collection of some of the caricature studies I did from Youtube videos.

Painting Interior

The painted version of a layout I did a while ago. I love the simplicity of traditional Japanese architecture, so it was fun researching for this assignment.

Drawing Exercises

Drawing practice in layout class. The composition was created by the teacher and I had to take the drawing to a higher level of finish.

Much better than the previous 3 layout exercises because my teacher showed a good technique for painting values.

Layouts and Exercises

Layout class is still a lot of fun, but it's really challenging because my teacher makes us draw difficult stuff. I didn't realize until now I've been avoiding seated figures in my drawings. And dragons, trees, clouds, cars, ugh so much stuff to study...

Yeaaaah, the 5th-7th drawings with the jester, horse and dragon are based on my teacher's composition. We have to take his roughs to a more finished level. After those are my layout exercises. And the first few are exterior/interior layouts for painting (plus one of the final paintings).

Neeeeed to study more.... less animation more drawing for reals...

Zbrush Model

Some of the few screenshots I took while modeling my first Zbrush character. I still have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to digital sculpting, haha... Jerome says it looks disgusting.

At least it sorta worked out in the end.

3D Animation - Lift and Toss

Just some 3D animation I've been working on for the past 2 weeks. Taught myself Zbrush, rigging and animating pose to pose in Maya. I key animated the lift and toss segment, but the dance was some mocap file in Maya, haha. I just added it in as extra since people think it's hilarious. Also had to resort to an autorig script because the initial rig I was working on was too time consuming to finish the assignment on time. At least I learned a lot from this assignment, so future 3D work will be faster to produce and I was focus more on quality rather than learning the software. I got the Spheal model from a guy at school who also helped a lot with my animation.

So yeah, I've been busy since school started which is why I made no blog posts, but I may post some more art and 3D wip later. Me and a buddy from school plan to do more Zbrush modeling, so hopefully I'll improve a lot in that area of production.
